Ken Dodd's Happiness Show - Record Sell-out

Veteran comedian Ken Dodd has added another record to his long list of achievements – his Playhouse Theatre show in June has sold out within five hours of being on sale, setting a new record.

For many years, Ken Dodd has attracted audiences from across the region to see him at The Playhouse Theatre, Weston-super-Mare, where he is also patron of the Friends supporters group, The Friends of the Playhouse.

The popular funnyman is a comedy genius whose humour has made him one of Britain’s best-loved comedians, and fans have flocked to the theatre to book tickets to see him on Sunday 15th June.

Playhouse spokesman, Chris Radford, said: “Ken Dodd is one of the biggest box-office stars in the history of our theatre, and he always performs to full houses. His fun-filled four-hour plus shows are notorious with theatre-goers in Weston, giving both a great evening of comedy and value for money.

“Patrons wanting tickets queued up long before we opened the doors at 10am on Monday (21st January) to ensure that they could get tickets for Ken Dodd’s June show in Weston.

“In the first hour we sold around a third-of the 658 tickets, and patrons queued quietly despite the wet weather. By 2.45pm, we had just three seats left.

“Sadly a power outage in Weston High Street meant we could not sell any tickets for a couple of hours, so perhaps Ken Dodd’s show next year will sell out even faster.

“When Ken Dodd was last with us in September, the show started at 7pm and finished just after midnight, so it took less time to sell the tickets than patrons attending the June show will spend watching it!

“Such was the demand for tickets that our telephone lines were jammed and many patrons were unable to get through. I can only apologize to those who tried to get tickets and were unsuccessful.”
